Description

Sixty percent of emergency nurses report having no behavioral health education since licensure, and many EDs do not have immediate access to psychiatric providers who can stratify risk for patients at risk of suicide. This tool was developed by ENA in collaboration with ACEP for nurses to identify patients at risk for suicide when psychiatric services are not readily available.

Learner Outcome(s): Upon completion of this course, the emergency room nurse will be able to identify barriers to suicide screening processes, identify processes by which the patient presenting to the ED can be assessed for suicide and kept safe as necessary, and develop an understanding of types of suicide prevention.
