Pdf Summary
Fall risk assessment tools, such as the Morse Fall Scale and Johns Hopkins Fall Risk Assessment Tool, have been studied in adult patients and shown variable performance in predicting fall risk. The STRATIFY tool has also been studied in hospitalized adults. In the pediatric population, tools like the Humpty Dumpty Falls Scale and CHAMPS Pediatric Fall Risk Assessment have limited evidence on their accuracy. Overall, fall risk assessment tools can help identify at-risk patients, but their effectiveness depends on the population and setting. The HIIFRM is a valid tool for predicting falls in geriatric patients. The study analyzed 179 patients and found a sensitivity of 78.6%, specificity of 74.7%, positive predictive value of 8.1%, and negative predictive value of 98.7% for the HIIFRM at a cutoff score of 8. The AUC ROC curve was 0.81. The HIIFRM should be used alongside clinical judgment and fall prevention interventions. The study selection process resulted in 51 studies meeting inclusion criteria out of 1,328 publications screened.
