Description

As specified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), (2022), urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the fifth most common type of healthcare-associated infection (HAI). A contributing factor with that, is the use of indwelling urinary catheter (IUC) in approximately 15-25% of hospitalized inpatients.
This module will review the published recommendations for reducing the number of these infections and discuss the role and practice changes that can occur in the emergency department (ED) to assist in this cause.
