Urinary catheter placement is a common procedure in the emergency department, and the emergency nurse plays a significant role in the reduction of catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). The Emergency Nurses Association, in partnership with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), has developed this course to help emergency nurses analyze the appropriate use of indwelling catheters and provide tools to remove obstacles involved with effecting change. Description

Urinary catheter placement is a common procedure in the emergency department, and the emergency nurse plays a significant role in the reduction of catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). The Emergency Nurses Association, in partnership with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), has developed this course to help emergency nurses analyze the appropriate use of indwelling catheters and provide tools to remove obstacles involved with effecting change. The one hour online course compares traditional practices with updated best practices and includes recommendations for change.

Learner Outcome(s): Upon completion of this course, the nurse will have increased knowledge of CAUTI, and be more familiar with the role emergency nurses can provide in supporting practice changes for prevention.
