Recent no-notice events such as the Las Vegas shooting and the Alaska earthquake will place a stress on local emergency departments as they respond to assist their communities. Using a standard approach in the first hour can help organize a response and have the best outcomes. The REACT framework can be used to respond to small and large scale events in any hospital. Please review ENA’s Disaster Emergency Essentials Toolkit for more information and to assist in creating a written disaster plan.

Learner Outcome(s): Upon completion of this course, the emergency room nurse will be able to define the term "no-notice event" and how these events can impact the emergency department and the role of the emergency nurse, and list the common pitfalls and barriers that occur during an emergency response and how the REACT framework can help mitigate these risks.
