Federal, local government, and civilian emergency response teams undergo rigorous training on response level duties during disasters following the National Incident Management System (NIMS). This training ensures streamlined, efficient, and safe operations at the scene of the disaster, rooted in a common incident command structure (Federal Emergency Management Agency [FEMA], 2021). With the crux of the training focused on the response level of on-scene providers, there is a delta when it comes to the role in-department clinicians play during such disasters. Focusing on the duties, roles, and responsibilities of the bedside clinician in the emergency department during these atypical events can ensure the influx of new patients integrates fluidly with the care of the current patients unaffected by the disaster.
