The purpose of this topic brief is to provide an overview of the gender‐expansive and transgender patient population, describe methods for creating gender‐affirming and supportive environments, discuss some barriers to healthcare, and provide recommendations for caring for gender‐expansive and transgender patients in the emergency care setting.
