Pdf Summary
The case study discusses the benefits of using Stryker's IsoFlex SE support surface with ShearGel technology for shear management. Pressure injuries are a prevalent issue with significant treatment costs, and shear is a major contributor to their development. Research by the Support Surface Standards Initiative (S3I) shows that reducing shear force can assist in pressure injury management.

The study conducted a shear test using IsoFlex SE and ComfortGel SE support surfaces following the S3I draft protocol. The test simulated a body sliding on a support surface with the head of the bed at a 30-degree angle. Shear performance was measured as the total work required to move the simulated body from 0-50mm (0-2").

Results from the third-party shear test showed that IsoFlex SE required less total work or energy to move a body on the support surface compared to ComfortGel SE. Specifically, IsoFlex SE provided a 30% reduction in shear force.

This case study highlights the advantages of using IsoFlex SE with ShearGel technology for shear management, as it can help reduce the incidence of pressure injuries.
